Stellar Jet Boy (currently a WIP) is a mobile game where you play as a little astronaut in search of stars! The stars refuel his jet pack. If you ran out of fuel, you lose the game!

This is a joint project with my partner, Lyon Beckers. He did all the programming for the game and I made all the art assets. I used Spine to animate our little astronaut and we used Unity to build the game. With this project I have learned Unity’s interface and how to use the particle systems, shaders, and post-processing effects, between others.

 

Here is a short clip of the game-play (before adding any UI) in level one! You can see all the animations above as well as the assets for the asteroids and the stars. I made the sky with a shader to create the stars and the gradient, and I gave the stars their glow with Bloom. You can also see the particle systems I used to make the starburst of the flame, the stars, and the splash for when the little astronaut hits his head against something. The arcade background is a little easter egg for players playing on a computer or horizontally in their phones.

 

I worked on Adobe XD to design the UI (user interface) of the game. It was useful to not only decide on the placement of the buttons and icons before designing it in Unity, but also to see how the buttons would interact and transition, depending on your selection.
