This was an in class exercise for my advertising class during fourth year of university. The purpose of this exercise was to make merchandise using the book we redesigned a cover for. The book I chose was The Picture of Dorian Gray. I played on the name “Earl Grey” and made a tea box named “Dorian Gray”. I used the patterns from the inside covers of the book on the tea set as well as on the tea tags to make the design cohesive and give it a refined look. I associate tea with reading and since this tea box is based on a book I made the box have a cut out so whoever buys it can have a bookmark with the floral pattern after being done with the tea. Even if someone does not know about the book, it is not usual for tea boxes to have patterns so it would catch people’s attention. Inside the tags there would be quotes from the book. On the outside, the floral theme continues as well as having some tags with the “DG” initials. As a special edition, I included a stationary set, a beanie, and a t-shirt with one of the patterns that could be sold separately.
